Jordan Obita spoke to the media to preview Hibs' Viaplay Cup quarter-final tie with St Mirren. Here's all the marauding left-back had to say...

How worrying is it when a new manager comes in?

"The last manager brought me in and you worry because the new manager may not have heard of me. He had a really good track record in Australia. But when any new manager comes in it gives every player a boost because some players who maybe hadn't been playing before maybe feel they have a fresh opportunity,  For me, I’ve been lucky enough to play for both so hopefully I can continue to impress and keep playing."

What are those first training sessions like under a new manager?

"Competition is really high. Like I said before, some players weren’t playing before and their confidence was low but a new manager comes in and gives them a big opportunity to impress so the standard in the first week or two has been really high and that is good. It keeps everyone on their toes and gives competition for places."

How happy were you when you heard the style he wants the team to play?

"I love passing football and sometimes if you don’t get it right then it doesn’t look good but the more belief we have in each game we play, the more we will continue to improve and be really good."

Have you had any one-to-ones with the new manager?

"No one-to-ones yet - before I came in here we had a unit meeting on how he wants us to play [against St Mirren] and I think they really help because they give you confidence heading into the game knowing exactly what he wants you to do. "

"You've played left-back,  left-winger - where does the manager see you fitting in?

"It has been left back so far and if I can be left back in a team that passes then I know I can get the ball high up the pitch. So in that left back role, you probably saw at the weekend I was really high, like a left winger.  That’s what the manager wants. He wants us to be on the front foot and really attacking. I love to try to get as many assists as I can in the season, and hopefully I can because I haven’t got one yet but I am sure it will happen, the more we improve."

Is there competition between the full-backs, with Lewis Miller getting his goal at the weekend?

"We’ve both got one at the moment but no competition. As long as we’re winning and picking up the points, that’s all that matters."

Did you prefer Montgomery's style of play when you were coming through at Reading?

"For me, when passing I want to play it forward. Not everyone sees it that way but if you get forward and up the pitch after three or four passes or 25 passes, as long as the ball ends up in the net and you get the goal, that’s all that matters. I do really enjoy passing football. I watch  Barcelona, or Manchester City and if you can try to replicate what they do, albeit there are differences in quality, it is really enjoyable when you get it right."

Is it daunting to try to dislodge Lewis Stevenson?

"He’s a really good guy and I have so much respect for him for what he has done here. He’s been amazing and not many players get to play for one club for as long as he has, but he is a really good player, even for his age, and he keeps me on my toes. I really enjoy the competition and we are all friends here."

So much has happened already - European games, a European goal, two managers, now a trip to Hampden would be nice?

"Yeah, it would be really nice. I’ve never played there. Back in England you look forward to Wembley but this is a different experience and it would be really good to try to do really well in this competition and get as far as we can."

Getting to Wembley sometimes takes so many games, but here it’s a couple of rounds then you’re at Hampden?

"Yeah, two wins and we’re there. It would be really good to play there after watching cup finals on TV, whether it’s Rangers, Celtic, or Hibs a couple of years ago. It would be really enjoyable to get there and try to get some silverware."

After the league match against St Mirren is there a sense of trying to make good?

"We know that in that first game we weren’t at our best. It was probably a mix of European football and being tired. That might have been a factor. In the second half we improved but just didn’t get the result. We know now that we are a better team than we were then. The belief Iis there and we are confident we can do well."
