David Gray has rued an untimely break for Hibs as they face another weekend without a fixture.

The head coach is keen for his side to build sustained momentum after picking up their first Scottish Premiership win of the season on Saturday, with goals from Mykola Kukharevych and Martin Boyle seeing off St Johnstone at Easter Road. But with Hibs out of the Premier Sports Cup, they will be idle this coming weekend - the second out of the last three in which there has been no game, the first owed to the recent international break.

With some players still working towards full match sharpness after injury lay-offs, and on-pitch relationships still developing amongst a new-look squad, Gray says it's less-than-ideal to find themselves with another weekend off. He suggested bounce games could be organised to keep Hibs ticking over, and is, at least, taking positives from being afforded additional time to work on the training pitch.

"We would have liked a game at the weekend, it would have been good to build on the momentum of the result to take that into training but it also gives us time," he said. "We’re a new squad, the coaching staff and everyone and it gives us extra time on the grass and we’ll make sure we’re getting as much into the players as we can.

"Ideally you would like it to be a working week with a game at the end of it every week, trying to get that rhythm and a way of working. We’ll do everything we can to make sure we’re getting enough into the boys from a training point of view, and organise games.

"A free weekend coming up is not great, you would like to have had that. We can’t affect that now so we have to make sure the boys are ready to go."

Hibs will return to action against Rangers at Ibrox on Sunday, September 29.
