Hibs defender Lewis Miller has been tipped for a first senior international call-up by Australia, according to reports in the player's homeland.
The 23-year-old has played 12 times for the Easter Road side this season and has caught the eye as an attacking full-back following the arrival of his former manager at Central Coast Mariners, Nick Montgomery, under whom he has managed one goal, against St Johnstone, and one assist against St Mirren in the Viaplay Cup quarter-final win. He also fashioned Hibs' first goal against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park when his effort was fumbled into the net by home goalkeeper Will Dennis.
Sydney-born Miller has been capped by the Socceroos at under-23 level but his performances for Hibs and his consistency could see national team boss Graham Arnold give the right-back a chance to stake a claim for regular involvement, with Nathaniel Atkinson of Hearts currently sidelined through injury.
Miller will likely face competition from another cinch Premiership Aussie in St Mirren right-back Ryan Strain, who has already been capped twice, with the Scots-based pair expected to be the only natural right-backs included in the squad.
However, Miloš Degenek served as Arnold's right-back during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar while Hearts centre-back Kye Rowles was played as a left-back against Mexico during the last international break, with the head coach not beyond positional experimentation in a bid to get the best out of his pool of players.
Miller is expected to join Hibs colleague Martin Boyle in the Australia squad, with the Socceroos scheduled to play England at Wembley and New Zealand at Brentford's Gtech Community Stadium on October 13 and 17 respectively.
Defender Rocky Bushiri has already received a call up to the Congo DR squad for the Leopards' friendly double-header against New Zealand in Murcia on October 13 and Angola in Lisbon on October 17 while midfielder Dylan Levitt has been recalled to the Wales squad for their friendly against Gibraltar at Wrexham on October 11, and Euro qualifier against Croatia in Cardiff four days later despite having not played a first-team game for Hibs since starting in the second leg of the club's Europa Conference League third-round tie with Luzern of Switzerland on August 17. Young midfielder Rudi Molotnikov, who scored in the club's 2-0 Reserve League victory over Queen's Park on Tuesday, will represent Scotland Under-19s in two friendlies against the Republic of Ireland and Portugal at the Pinatar Arena in Murcia.
