Hibs are closing in on the loan signing of Bournemouth attacker Emiliano Marcondes as Nick Montgomery continues his hunt for January reinforcements.

The 28-year-old Dane is out of contract with the Cherries in the summer but wants more game time than manager Andoni Iraola can guarantee him. According to reports in the player's homeland, there has been plenty of interest in the former Denmark Under-21 cap from clubs in England, Germany, and the Netherlands, but the player is keen on a switch to Easter Road with his parent club expected to cover his salary in full. However, it is understood that the move is not related to Bournemouth owner Bill Foley's planned investment in Hibs.

Marcondes hasn't made a senior appearance so far this season after undergoing surgery on a foot injury last June but after a couple of appearances in a bounce game and an under-21 clash, he returned to the senior matchday squad as an unused substitute for the 3-2 FA Cup victory over QPR earlier this month, and again for the 4-0 defeat by Liverpool at the Vitality Stadium this past weekend.

Hailing from the Copenhagen suburb of Hvidovre, Marcondes began his career with Nordsjælland, before joining Brentford in 2018. He spent time on loan with Midtjylland in 2019 and completed a move to Bournemouth on a three-year deal in 2021, returning to Nordsjælland on loan last season. He came close to leaving the south coast during Scott Parker's tenure and was a reported target for the likes of Malmö and Brondby as well as former clubs Nordsjælland and Midtjylland, while teams in Belgium, England, Turkey, and the Czech Republic were also keen, but he opted to stay with Bournemouth.

After his stint with the Bees, whom he helped win promotion to the English Premier League via the play-offs, he spoke of his preferred position: "At Brentford, I played as an eight, and I want to play as a ten instead. I never really got into the positions I wanted to be in and where I think I am best."

Hibs head coach Montgomery has already completed his first January signing, with the capture of winger Myziane Maolida from Hertha BSC on a loan deal until the summer. Former QPR midfielder Luke Amos, currently a free agent, is also training with the Capital club with a view to impressing the coaching staff while a deal for a defender was close before falling through at the eleventh hour.

Brazilian playmaker Adryan and Kris Moore were both part of Hibs' winter training camp in Dubai but weren't offered deals. Earlier this month Reuben McAllister and Malek Zaid signed loan deals with Kelty Hearts and Edinburgh City respectively. Midfielder Dylan Tait has had his season-long stint with Hamilton cancelled and has recently signed on loan for Falkirk, where he will again team up with John McGlynn, who brought Tait through at Raith Rovers.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Max Boruc, centre-back Riley Harbottle, and midfielder Allan Delferrière are expected to leave Easter Road on loan deals this month. Neither Delferrière nor Harbottle were part of the matchday squad on Saturday against Forfar, with Boruc travelling as the third 'keeper. Harbottle, signed from Nottingham Forest during Lee Johnson's tenure, is expected to return to England having failed to force his way into first-team plans under Montgomery while Boruc is expected to head out on loan to a Scottish Championship side.
