Hibs have lodged a complaint with the SPFL after Dundee's home game with Rangers was postponed - with fuming Easter Road chiefs insisting the Dark Blues have gained an unfair advantage in the race for a place in the top half of the cinch Premiership.

Dens Park was subjected to two pitch inspections on Wednesday, one in the morning and one at 3.30pm, with afternoon rainfall in the City of Discovery putting paid to the match. The surface has now been deemed unplayable on five occasions this season alone.

The Evening News reports that Hibs have communicated their concerns that Tony Docherty's side have gained a 'sporting advantage', with the match rearranged for next midweek - a full four days after the capital club travel to face Motherwell in a top-six showdown at Fir Park.

The Hibs hierarchy are said to have claimed that playing the rearranged match after the final round of pre-split fixtures are completed this weekend 'undermines the sporting integrity of the league programme', and have made their feelings clear to their SPFL counterparts.

Dundee are now facing disciplinary action from the league, with opponents Rangers issuing a strongly-worded statement in the wake of the call-off. Gers boss Philippe Clement earlier described the situation as 'crazy', adding: "If it was moved to next week we could find ourselves in the same situation once again if it rains."

The Ibrox side branded the situation 'deeply embarrassing [and] eminently avoidable', adding: "The negligence and unprofessionalism demonstrated by Dundee Football Club, where they have repeatedly breached SPFL rules, continues to have a damaging effect on the top professional league in the country.

"Rangers expects the SPFL to take proportionate and decisive action in accordance with its rules, and the club will continue to make representations to them in the strongest possible manner."

The SPFL's chief operating officer Calum Beattie confirmed in a statement that the agreed plan B was that, in the event of a call-off,  the fixture would be played next week, with no alternative solution reached following discussions with representatives from both teams.

"This decision gives this vital fixture the very best chance of being played in front of both sets of supporters and also gives us a week to finalise further contingency planning in the event that the weather unexpectedly deteriorates in the interim," he said.

"There is currently an ongoing disciplinary process regarding pitch issues at Dens Park and the latest developments will form part of those enquiries."
