Brian McDermott will depart his position at Hibs at the end of this month.

The 63-year-old was appointed director of football in May 2023, but it's been confirmed that he's set to leave after just over a year amid an overhaul of the club's football operation. McDermott's role had specific focus on recruitment, and he was involved in bringing the likes of Dylan Vente to Easter Road.

But following talks with new sporting director Malky Mackay, the decision was reached for the former Reading and Leeds United manager to move on when his contract is up in just over a fortnight.

A club statement said: "Hibernian FC can confirm that Brian McDermott will depart the Club at the end of June following the expiration of his contract.

"McDermott joined Hibs in May 2023 and oversaw the Club’s football operation, holding a specific focus on recruitment.

"Following extended discussions with the club, McDermott will vacate his role at the end of the month."

Sporting director Mackay emphasised McDermott's contribution over the past 12 months, adding:  “Brian is someone I’ve known for a long time and is a really good man. Brian and I had a good discussion and came to this conclusion.

"I’d like to thank him for the good work he’s done over the last 12 months and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
