Paul Hanlon has signed for Raith Rovers, reuniting with fellow Hibs legend Lewis Stevenson following their departure from Easter Road.

The 34-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the Championship side, who are managed by former Hibs star Ian Murray. Stevenson's move to Kirkcaldy was confirmed at the end of May, and it was widely rumoured that he would be joined in the second tier by his close friend and long-time team-mate.

Raith have now confirmed that Hanlon will ply his trade at Stark's Park until at least 2027. Murray's side were defeated finalists in last season's Premiership play-offs, losing over two legs to Ross County after overcoming Partick Thistle in the semi-final. Hanlon says he's eager to help the club now build on a position of strength.

“I’m absolutely delighted to sign for The Rovers until 2027," the centre-back told the club website. "I can’t wait to meet the boys, start training and build on the great work that was done last season.“

Murray expects Hanlon will bring 'leadership, calmness, and aggression' - among plenty other qualities - to his team for the coming campaign.

“Paul is an excellent signing for us and a lot of work went into getting him," he said. "Left-footed centre halves are hard to find but Paul has played at the highest level in Scotland for a number of years and brings us real quality in defence and in terms of leadership, calmness and aggression.

"He reads the game exceptionally well and makes the squad stronger. We look forward to working with him and look forward to what he will bring to us also.“

Hanlon made over 550 Hibs appearances having debuted all the way back in 2008. He was named club captain back in 2021, having been an integral part of the 2016 Scottish Cup-winning side. A boyhood Hibs fan, he played his last game in green and white in the 1-1 draw with Livingston on the final day of last season, with the club deciding not to offer him a new contract.
