Former Hibernian head coach Nick Montgomery and right-hand man Sérgio Raimundo have joined Ange Postecoglou's coaching staff at Tottenham Hotspur.

The duo, who first worked together in the Central Coast Mariners academy before taking charge of the first team and winning the A-League Championship, moved across the world to take up similar roles at Easter Road in September last year - but after a run of just 12 wins in 37 matches, they were relieved of their duties along with goalkeeping coach Miguel Miranda, with current head coach David Gray taking interim charge for a fourth spell until the end of the Scottish Premiership season.

Former Celtic manager Postecoglou recently lost senior assistant coach Chris Davies to Birmingham, with Brendan Rodgers' former No.2 moving to St Andrews to take on his first managerial role. And Montgomery has joined the coaching staff at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Raimundo following suit pending a work permit.

Postecoglou, like Montgomery, coached in Australia before heading to the Scottish Premiership via a successful stint with Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan, and he backed the former Sheffield United midfielder to be a hit in the capital.

“Nick has done brilliantly in Australia. He did a fantastic job at a club that it is fair to say in Australia is not considered one of the big ones and won the whole thing last year," Postecoglou said in September 2023.

“He has done it in a great way where he has developed young players and great he gets the opportunity. I am glad people are looking beyond the obvious in terms of candidates whether they are at their doorstep or on the other side of the world."

Postecoglou also invited Montgomery to London after he was appointed head coach at Hibs.

“When we won the grand final Ange was one of the first to congratulate me, and he was one of the first again to text me when I was appointed by Hibs," Montgomery said shortly after arriving in Edinburgh.

"What Ange said was really humbling. I’ve followed his career closely and it’s a measure of the man that he’s offered me the support and encouragement that he has. He’s invited me down to spend a day at Tottenham and that’s something I’ll certainly do when the opportunity arises."

Postecoglou can count former Australia captain Mile Jedinak among his coaching staff while ex-Spurs and England midfielder Ryan Mason and former Tottenham youth player Matt Wells are also part of his backroom staff. The departure of Davies has necessitated a reshuffle, with Wells promoted to senior assistant coach.

The former Celtic manager said: "It’s great to have Nick and Sergio join the club, and they will add to the talented coaches we already have on the staff here.

“Both Nick and Sergio have a wealth of coaching experience over a number of years. They have already demonstrated a strong desire to both develop young talent and implement a football style that I believe will further strengthen the environment we have established. I’m looking forward to working with them."
