Ewan Henderson has left Easter Road to sign for Belgian side Beerschot on a permanent transfer.

The deal to take the midfielder to the Jupiler Pro League for an undisclosed fee, but Hibs have confirmed they've received six figures and negotiated a sell-on clause. Beerschot, managed by former Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt, say they have secured the Scot's services on a 'multi-year contract'.

Henderson spent last season on-loan in Belgium with KV Oostende, but any prospect of a permanent switch there was extinguished by the club being declared bankrupt back in June. Beerschot then moved in to offer the former Celtic youth an extended stay on the continent.

Hibs head coach David Gray says he believes Henderson is well-adjusted to the Belgian league and expects his career to kick on from here.

“I wish Hendo all the best for the future," said Gray. “He showed last season that the style of football in Belgium really suits him and shows off some of his best attributes. I think he will relish a new environment and kick on in his career.”

Sporting director Malky Mackay believes a permanent transfer was best for all parties, wishing Henderson 'nothing but the best'.

“This deal makes complete sense for both the club and for Ewan," said Mackay. "He performed well in Belgium last season, which has earnt him this move and the opportunity to progress in his career. I’ve known him for a number of years and I wish him nothing but the best for the future.”

Henderson signed for Hibs from Celtic, on-loan in January 2022 in a move that was agreed to become permanent in the summer. That followed previous short-term stints with Ross County and Dunfermline Athletic.

The midfielder, brother of former Hibs star Liam Henderson, made 56 appearances in green and white, scoring five times.
