Hibernian are closing in on the permanent signing of Fulham forward Kieron Bowie and remain keen to bring Dundee captain Luke McCowan to Easter Road - after head coach David Gray added former Aberdeen winger Junior Hoilett and ex-Barnsley and Forest Green Rovers utility man Nicky Cadden to their ranks on Tuesday.

A deal was struck for Canadian internationalist Hoilett, 34, to join the club on a one-year deal while Cadden, twin brother of Chris, has put pen to paper on a three-year deal, linking up with his sibling for the first time at senior level, after the pair came through the youth system together at fellow Scottish Premiership side Motherwell before Nicky joined Airdrie.

What Hibs fans can expect from new signing Junior Hoilett

Hoilett and Cadden are the club’s sixth and seventh summer signings, following permanent moves for goalkeeper Jordan Smith and defenders Marvin Ekpiteta and Warren O’Hora and season-long loan agreements for goalkeeper Joe Bursik and former loanee Mykola Kukharevych, who rejoined from Swansea City.

Hibs are understood to be putting the finishing touches on a four-year deal for Scotland Under-21 cap Bowie, who has hit nine goals in four outings for Scot Gemmill’s side. Over two loan spells with Northampton Town the former Raith Rovers youngster chipped in with 23 goal involvements in 85 games and is comfortable playing anywhere across the front three.

A number of clubs including Wrexham and Northampton were said to be interested in securing Bowie’s services but a move back to Scotland is believed to have featured heavily in his decision-making and with Hibs on the cusp of striking a deal with Fulham, the 21-year-old was due to be heading north to undergo a medical.

Hibs retain McCowan interest after initial knockback

Hibs also remain interested in McCowan, who earned the Dark Blues a point in the Dundee derby on Sunday with the equaliser from the penalty spot. Easter Road chiefs have already had an approach for the former Ayr United man knocked back by their Dens Park counterparts but they are likely to return with an improved offer, with fellow interest party Bolton also monitoring the situation amid reported interest from Celtic and teams in the USA.

With the player out of contract at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, Dundee tabled a new offer some months ago but McCowan has not signed a new deal. Speaking at the weekend, he remained coy over his future, saying: "I am a Dundee player as it is. There has been nothing that has been put on my plate that is going to make me leave here anytime soon. I am the captain here and I need to take responsibility in each game."

The Greenock-born midfielder was brought to Somerset Park by then manager Ian McCall in 2017 after impressing for local side East End United. His performances for the Honest Men earned him a move to Dundee in the summer of 2021, initially as a wide player, before coming inside and adapting to a central role. He scooped the Scottish Premiership Player of the Month award for April 2024 and was named Dundee's Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year.
