Dylan Vente has completed a season-long loan move to Eredivisie side PEC Zwolle.

The Hibs striker, a £700,000 signing from Roda JC last summer, has moved back to the Netherlands for the new campaign after toiling to make an impact at Easter Road. Vente scored four goals in the Scottish Premiership last season, and eight in all competitions, but often cut a frustrated figure in green and white. The 25-year-old began the new season with a hat-trick against Elgin City in the Premier Sports Cup, but was unable to find the net again thereafter.

Interest from his homeland emerged earlier this week, and the striker returned to his homeland to finalise the transfer. Head coach David Gray could now seek to replace Vente with another attacking signing before the transfer window closes, having already made nine additions, including forwards Kieron Bowie and Mykola Kukharevych.

“Dylan is a player that I’ve really enjoyed working with every day because of his professionalism and desire to get better," Gray told the Hibs website. “He has undoubted quality, but at this moment in time, it just hasn’t quite worked out for Dylan. His move provides an opportunity to go home and hopefully start playing regularly with a smile on his face again. I wish him all the best for the rest of the season.”

Sporting director Malky Mackay says interest had been building in Vente all summer, and he believes the move works for everyone.

“There’s been a lot of interest in Dylan over the summer and after serious consideration from all parties, we believe this is the right move for him at this time," said Mackay.

“The Eredivisie is recognised as one of the top leagues in the world, and this gives Dylan a chance to concentrate on his game and remind people what he’s capable of. Everyone at the club will be keeping a keen eye on Dylan, and wish him all the best for his loan with PEC Zwolle.”
