Hibernian have rewarded Jacob MacIntyre with a new three-year contract, highlighting the impact they believe the midfielder can have on the first-team squad in the near future.

The 18-year-old has already made his senior debut in the Scottish Premiership, coming on as a substitute in a 3-0 home win against Livingston last season, and was included in David Gray's group for the recent Premier Sports Cup second-round tie against Celtic in Glasgow.

MacIntyre, who was part of the Hibs team that won the CAS Elite Under-18 League in 2021/22, featuring regularly as a 15-year-old and often as a right-wingback, is a versatile midfielder who helped Scotland reach the Under-17 Euros in 2023, and he featured as Hibs reached the play-off round of the UEFA Youth League during the 2022/23 season. Older brother Oscar also played regularly on the left-hand side

Sporting director Malky Mackay said: "Jacob is a talented young professional and we’re delighted he wants to continue his development at Hibs. Nurturing our own homegrown talent is very important for the club and Jacob is an excellent example of how we want to bring those young players through the system, having been with Hibs since the age of 9.

“We hope over the next few years he can continue to mature as a player and begin to push for a consistent place in the first-team squad.”

MacIntyre has not long returned from the second of two injury lay-offs but will be looking for greater involvement in the senior squad and a return to the youth national team fold. He was capped five times by Scotland at under-17 level, scoring three goals including a double on his debut, and has made four appearances for the under-19s with his last cap coming in a 2-0 defeat by the Czech Republic in March this year.
