Nectar Triantis is contemplating his international future after reportedly being courted by the Greek national team.
The midfielder, on loan at Hibs from Sunderland, has represented Australia up to U-23 level, but has yet to be involved with the senior squad, and therefore remains eligible to switch allegiance. The 21-year-old grew up in Sydney, but both his parents are Greek, and Triantis says the country holds a 'strong and tight place' in his heart.
However, while he insists he's ruled nothing out at this stage, his preference would be to make a breakthrough with the Socceroos. Triantis hopes his return to Easter Road, reuniting him with potential Australia team-mates in Martin Boyle and Lewis Miller, will help him on the way to becoming a full international.
"It’s obviously a good feeling that there’s other countries that are wanting you," Triantis told A-Leagues on the interest from Greece. "For me, both my parents are Greek and I grew up in a Greek household based in Sydney, so Greece does hold a strong and tight place in my heart. But growing up in Australia I think it’s always been my dream to play for Australia. So in terms of countries, it’s sort of a mixed feeling because I could play for either so it’s still not completely decided. But yeah, my heart does have a close spot with Greece.

Junior Hoilett 'enticed' by Hibs as he offers fitness update
“I’ve got love for both countries and just it’s an honour to have that tick of approval from Greece but obviously I’ve represented Australia at youth level, so I know that honour and that feeling of playing for Australia too. But I think my heart is with Australia. I’ve always had that dream to play for Australia and I think that’s sort of linked with my move to Hibs going on loan back to them.
“I’ve seen a few players from Scottish Premiership going on and playing for the Socceroos, obviously two teammates of mine in Martin Boyle and Lewis Miller, so I think that did have an effect on my decision. I think it gives me the best opportunity to play for Australia. I’m playing at a good level, week in, week out, and hopefully soon knocking on the door to play for the Socceroos.”
