David Gray says he never feared for his job after Hibs' damaging defeat to St Mirren - but insists he will aware that the club's support for him is not infinite.

Following the 2-1 loss Easter Road, which sparked angry scenes at full-time, the club declared that they would continue to back the under-pressure head coach, a view shared by Black Knight FC, but stressed that 'all departments are under pressure to deliver.'. Hibs are bottom of the Scottish Premiership with just one win from 12 games, leading to speculation that Gray would pay for the poor form with his job.

But he says the club's statement did not come as a surprise to him, because he was promised time to turn things around amid the 'situation I inherited' after the sacking of Nick Montgomery. But Gray fully accepts that results have been far from good enough and that the onus is on him to find a solution quickly despite the club's continuing support for him.

"Communication with myself and the club has been very consistent since I took over," said the head coach. "I understand, because of the position we're in, why the question's been asked and why the club put a statement out. It wasn't a surprise to me because of the conversations we've been having.

"We know the league position isn't good enough but the club coming out and showing their support wasn't a surprise to me because of the communication, and the situation I inherited, which was that the manager will be given time to try and turn things around. We believe we will.

"Do I fear for my job? I don't think 'fear' is the right word. I fully understand that what I've delivered is not good enough. I'm responsible for the results after the amount of games we've had. As I said after the St Mirren game, and I stand by it, is that I fully understand the noise and why people would ask the question.

"But I still believe I can turn it around. I still feel that, and it's the feeling I get from the players and how quickly things can change. But I also know that you don't just get an endless amount of time. The statement clearly said that the club are supporting the manager but things need to improve."
