Hibs pair Martin Boyle and Lewis Miller have been called up to the Australia squad for the Socceroos' friendly double-header against England and New Zealand.

Miller, who has a handful of caps at under-23 level, has earned his first senior squad inclusion after an impressive start to the season, particularly since the arrival of former Central Coast Mariners head coach Nick Montgomery, with the Sydney-born full-back notching a goal and an assist in his last three matches.

His Easter Road colleague Boyle, meanwhile, will expect to add to his tally of 19 international appearances at Wembley against Gareth Southgate's side and four days later against the All-Whites at Brentford's Gtech Community Stadium.

While there aren't too many surprises with the rest of the squad - regulars in the green and gold such as ex-Hibee Jackson Irvine, Craig Goodwin, and Maty Ryan are all included while there are spots for Boyle and Miller's fellow Scots-based Aussies Kye Rowles of Hearts and St Mirren pair Keanu Baccus and Ryan Strain.

One interesting selection decision is a recall for Massimo Luongo. The Ipswich Town midfielder hasn't been called up to the national squad since 2019 but his role in the Portman Road side's strong start to the campaign has earned him a return to the fold - a decision that will surely have caught Hibs midfielder Jimmy Jeggo's eye. The former Adelaide United spoiler featured for his country in the lead-up to the 2022 World Cup but hasn't been selected since. However, having cemented his spot as one of Montgomery's two starting midfielders, he may hope for a similar redemption arc to his compatriot.

Socceroos head coach Graham Arnold said of his selection: "We’ve played some quality opposition in recent months, and I’ve been happy with how we’re building towards what’s an important period. Aside from the opposition, we’ve been able to vary conditions and personnel to give players the opportunities they need to grow and develop within our environment.

“This period [post-Qatar 2022] has always been geared towards those outcomes, as we refine the system and style of play that will carry us through the Asian Cup and World Cup qualification. I think it’s fitting this work culminates in what will be an amazing occasion at Wembley, as well as the opportunity to face New Zealand as we play for one of the earliest trophies in Socceroos’ history.

"This squad, along with those players selected in previous windows, are an important part of our journey into 2024 and beyond. We’re building a strong group of players who understand the team culture and values that underpin everything we do.

“We’ve got a fantastic group of young players coming through, many who have come through the Olyroos Olympic program, we’re now seeing the benefits of that work and investment. The involvement of players in a train-on capacity in this camp is about bringing them into the environment as they continue their development."

Boyle and Miller join Hibs team-mates Rocky Bushiri (Congo DR), Dylan Levitt (Wales), and Rudi Molotnikov (Scotland Under-19) in earning call-ups for the upcoming international break. Midfielder Nohan Kenneh, who is currently on loan at Shrewsbury Town, will hope to add to his Liberia caps when they face Libya and Morocco.
