Good afternoon folks,
Today we heard from David Gray for the first time since Hibs released a statement declaring he would get more time to turn things around.
Regardless of where you stand on that decision, I don't think it can be argued that the head coach has handled the questions, the scrutiny, and the noise around his position with the kind of class Hibs fans have come to expect from a man who represented the club with distinction for so many years as a player.
There's a level-headedness about Gray that suggests he does have the temperament for football management, and he has answered repeated questions about his performance, and future, with honesty. There's been no obfuscation on his part, just an acceptance that it's not been good enough.
None of this is to excuse the fact that, as Gray says, things can't really go on like this for much longer. He will rightly be judged by results, not his dealings with the media. With three games in a week starting tomorrow at Dundee, this could be the defining period of his tenure, for better or worse.
You can read what he had to say about the club's backing for him HERE, as well as Chris Cadden speaking about what the players must be asking themselves HERE. There'll be more to follow on our website from 10.30pm this evening. In the meantime, Matty Fairnie and I sat down earlier this afternoon to preview tomorrow's fixture at Dens Park, which you can watch on our YouTube channel HERE.
Safe travels if you're off to Dens tomorrow, and hopefully you'll be heading home with an overdue Hibs win to savour.
