Nick Montgomery spoke to the media after Hibs' 4-0 defeat at Ibrox. Here's everything the manager had to say...

How tough an afternoon was that?

"It was tough, yes - it was a defeat. I'm obviously disappointed in the manner of the first goal; I thought we were building into the game at that point and frustrating them, and created a couple of half-chances on the counter so it was a disappointing goal to concede.

"They started building a little bit of momentum, their fans were buoyant, but the second goal - my view at the time was that it was a foul on Joe Newell. That's my opinion. I've watched it back on the video and he gets kicked from behind in his Achilles before the ball is touched, and I genuinely thought VAR would pull it back, but that wasn't to be.

"In the second half there were a couple of sloppy turnovers, and the pressure was off them. If you don't defend the edge of the box properly... they've got quality players and they were clinical. I think you saw today they were more clinical than we were. We lacked a bit of creativity in the final third, and we didn't create many chances. Towards the end of the game we had a couple of half-chances that, if we pick a better option, we might have had a better chance to score.

"It wasn't to be today; it was a defeat, we accept it, we cop it on the chin, and we move forwards."

Is it frustrating that there's a new manager at Rangers, there's been a bit of unrest at Ibrox, but you couldn't capitalise?

"You come here, there are top fans here and they create a great atmosphere. They wanted change and the new manager's come in but like myself he won't change everything overnight.

"Their players were a little bit more energetic today but I genuinely thought we quietened them down at the start and we played some food stuff but the first goal is really important. I thought we gave it away, and it really was going against what we've been doing - it was just a long ball from Davie Marshall; we didn't win the first ball, we didn't pick up the second, and then it's a transition moment which brings it back to our goal and it's a good finish.

"The second goal came at a time when we could have got back into the game but at 2-0 down you have to come out and play, if you just sit back you're never going to score a goal.

"But we weren't great in the final third today, there were a couple of sloppy mistakes at the back, and they're clinical and in the key moments they were better than us, and that's the disappointing thing."
